Story, first published: Galaxy Science Fiction, Nov. 1954

"How-2" ... is a satirical treatment of robots and the do-it-yourself craze that swept the country in the fifties. By mistake, an ardent do-it-yourselfer receives a kit to assemble an experimental robot that can reproduce itself. The whole situation gets out of hand when the robots actually do reproduce, and the do-it-yourselfer gets involved in a lawsuit settled by declaring that robots have rights.
